Celebrating Green

Today I based Dragonfly's lessons around the color green. She started with a green collage.
She still needs help cutting so I made lines for her to follow.

I put together a bunch of green items for Dragonfly to sort.

I also gave dragonfly some spoons. I love that she realized right away that the eye dropper filled the caps much quicker.
Then she tried pouring from the caps into the bottle.
That led to stacking the caps.

Activities for March

March is a fun month to remember how awesome it is to be Irish! Not that I think rainbows, gold, leprechauns, or four leaf clovers are really "Irish" things. I got a few activities prepared tonight. PF really wanted to help as well so I let her come up with some trays for her sister.

I really enjoyed seeing how creative PF could be with these activities. I literally just put all the materials she could use out on the table and she went for it. Before I looked through all the pictures, I thought she was doing all counting activities but as I was looking through the pictures, I realized she hit on all the basic areas that Dragonfly needs right now. I love having creative children!

No work today

I was in the middle of setting up Dragonfly's activities for today while she was watching Letter Factory, when I received a call from the school nurse saying that Ladybug was running a 102.7 fever. I went into the other room to grab Dragonfly and she was sacked out and running a fever as well. So we grabbed Ladybug from school and now they are both cozy in my bed enjoying snuggle/movie time with mommy. But here are the activities Dragonfly was going to do today.

Size hearts. Largest to smallest.

Heart toothpicks. I made these by putting a toothpick between to form sticker hearts. I saw on another blog that someone found plastic hearts on a stick but I haven't seen them at the store. I also figured I could make my own.

Heart graphing.

Covering the letter V with form sticker hearts. These are the Faith version. You will find phrases like Jesus Saves, Jesus Cares, God's love and so on.

My sick girls curled up in my bed watching a movie. Last week Butterfly was sick and now Ladybug is home from school. I am enjoying this one on two time with my girls even if they are sick.

Dragonfly Preschool: Winter

I had decided last month to do a winter theme for January and use a lot of snowmen things that I had on hand. I have found so many cool print out and ideas for this month. Most of the print outs I used today came from this blog. She puts together wonderful themed packs! Today we went over the letter "W". I don't have do-a-dots so we used stamps instead. The girls got a bunch of circular stamps from a Christmas party, so this is a great way to use them.

Then we practiced matching by playing winter dominoes while drinking our smoothie snack.

A fellow blogger gave me some great ideas for preparing Dragonfly for using scissors. She suggested working on strengthening the muscles in her hand. For this activity, Dragonfly was doing just that as she squeezed the correct number of clothespins onto each snowman.

The doorbell rang in the middle of it all and sure enough the scissors with open assistance that I ordered for Dragonfly were delivered. So I quickly got some strips of paper and dragonfly cut some snowflakes. She did so well today. These scissors made all the difference. Dragonfly was getting frustrate before that she couldn't open the scissors back up but wasn't struggling with the rest of the process of cutting. Now the frustration has been eliminated!

Dragonfly did wonderful today with all of her activities. She is really getting better about pointing and counting each object instead of touching everything while counting really fast and the numbers not matching up. We had some great discussions about winter while we worked on each activity such as what do we wear during the winter, what starts with "w", what does it feel like in the winter, and what kinds of fun activities can we do in the snow.

Button Caterpillar

Buttoning has been a challenge for two of my girls. I love the idea of these button toys. They are such a fun way to get them to practice this skill. I also added a ribbon to practice tying as this is another skill the girls need some work on. Other ideas I have for this toy is size, color and pattern activities.
