A Glimpse of Day One

Our "Summer Break" lasted the weekend. We had a fantastic weekend but it was back to business this morning. We have found that year round schooling works much better for us. We enjoy taking random breaks throughout the year for either vacations or just simply because we all need a day off.

We started the morning off with a praise and worship DVD. The girls enjoy singing and moving while they are worshiping. It's a great motivation for the day. I then went over how this year was going to run and went over some rules. There are basically two parts to our mornings, table time with mom and centers. Table time is where I go over spelling, reading, flashcards and math with each girl individually. I am hoping to get this time right at an hour for each. Some were faster and some were slower today. The centers are all independent work. Today's centers included writing journal, handwriting, file folder games, coloring, magnet poetry, busy bugs, worksheets, piano, and free drawing on the white board. Some of these centers will change daily.

They all worked very hard and all but PF got her morning work done by noon. I can already see where PF's schedule will have to be adjusted since her workload is heavier. Now everyone is resting quietly before we start our afternoon which includes Chinese and My Father's World curriculum. It's a full day!

Calendar

PF got a new calendar for Christmas. It came with stickers for each holiday and ones for birthdays. She is going through the calendar finding holidays and placing her sister's birthday's in.

Butterfly's version of days of the week. It took her alot of courage to be video taped by herself. I am so proud of her :)

Circle time songs

Butterfly and Ladybug have really enjoyed our circle time songs and saying the pledge. They wanted to be videoed doing them. This is a good start for getting up in front of groups and giving speeches and performances.

Proverbs 31

Part of our morning time right now is working on Proverbs 31. Whoever said that 3 year olds can't memorize long passages of scripture has never met my 3 year old. There is another little girl on youtube that does incredible things too. Ladybug does not have it perfect nor have we gone through the whole passage either but this is what she has so far. She wants so much to remember it all and say it right as you will see.

Morning Time

After breakfast, sometimes before we get dressed for the day or after, we have a group lesson time. This time includes: devotions, prayers, the pledge, calendar and other mini lessons that vary.


My friend is packing up her house to move and gave us this magnet calendar. I have really been enjoying it. I don't know why I like it more than the dry erase board calendar I had but I do. With the calendar we talk about months, days, seasons, the weather, counting, things we are doing, holidays, and tackle concepts like yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Then we sing days of the week and months of the year.

This is the devotional we are using right now. It isn't a typical devotional but discusses character traits based on Proverbs 31. In the process, we are memorizing the verses that go along with each section. By the end of the book, we will have Proverbs 31 memorized.

Yesterday our mini lesson was on good vs. bad behavior and punishments. Another friend of mine has a chart that she refers to with her children so I was kinda of going with that. The punishments my kids came up with were very drastic. I thought it was actually pretty humorous. Their daddy looked at the list later and basically said "so you want me to break my hand?" This list will be revised by the parents/teachers but it was nice to see the kids aware of things they need to be working on.
